| Comprehensive Plan Assessment Report
The District of Columbia Office of Planning (OP) has published its Comprehensive Plan Assessment Report. The report responds to a request from the Mayor and DC Council to explore options for improving the format, content, and usefulness of the Comprehensive Plan. The Plan is the District's official public policy statement on land use, transportation, housing, the environment, public facilities, urban design, and similar issues. A 29-member Mayor and Council appointed task force provided guidance to OP in the development of recommendations. The Assessment concluded that a major revision of the Comprehensive Plan should be pursued. It suggests a more meaningful and user-friendly format, with stronger links to related city plans and programs, and recommends a series of changes to the Plan amendment process. The report also recommends DC consider creating a Planning Commission, and take a number of legislative actions that would make the Plan a stronger and more effective tool for guiding future growth.
